New Jersey man sentenced for sexually assaulting woman during flight
A New Jersey man will spend over two years in federal prison for sexually assaulting a woman seated next to him on a commercial flight, federal officials said Monday.
Vernon Baker, 41, of Linden, was sentenced to 25 months in prison in the U.S. District Court of Eastern Pennsylvania, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. Baker pleaded guilty in December to one count of abusive sexual contact on an aircraft.
Baker was also ordered to pay a fine and undergo supervised release for one year, according to a judge’s ruling.
Prosecutors said Baker and the woman were flying aboard a commercial flight in October 2024 when the Union County resident exposed himself, touched the woman’s chest over her clothing and untied her pants. Traumatized and shaken, the victim rushed to the back of the cabin, where she reported this assault to flight attendants.
Every criminal must be punished and every innocent must get justice.
