North Jersey man faces murder charge in Warren county shooting

A Morris County man was arrested Thursday and accused of fatally shooting someone in Warren County earlier in the day, authorities said.

Anthony J. Garvin, 34, of Netcong, was charged with murder and possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose stemming from a shooting early Thursday morning in Independence Township, said Kevin Brotzman, acting chief assistant prosecutor in Warren County in a press release.

Police initially responded shortly after 8:15 a.m. on Thursday to a shooting on Alphano Road, just near the Allamuchy border, in the usually peaceful and farm-heavy Warren County township. Residents were ordered to shelter in place and police were blocking traffic on Thursday along the 7-mile road, which stretches from Allamuchy south through Independence Township and Great Meadows, an unincorporated community within Independence Township.
